RCT Procedure step by step
Here's a step-by-step layout of the Root Canal Therapy (RCT) procedure:
Root Canal Therapy Procedure
1. Anesthesia: The procedure starts with local anesthesia (L.A) using Articaine or Lignocaine to numb the tooth and surrounding area.
2. Access Opening: After placing the rubber dam and isolating the tooth and surrounding area, a small opening is made in the tooth using a Shofu access opening Bur no. 248 to access the pulp chamber.
3. Pulp Chamber Cleaning: The pulp chamber is cleaned using a Spoon Excavator and accessing/locating of canals done by Sx rotary instruments (Dentsply)
4 Exploring of canals it is done by 8 number instrument
5. Working Length Measurement: The working length of the root canal is measured using a Canal-Pro Apex Locator (Coltene) with a 10 no. K-File.
6. Flaring / cleaning of canals with instrument K file number 15 and 20
7. Cleaning and Shaping: The root canal is cleaned and shaped using rotary instruments ( SX, S1, S2, F1, F2, F3, F4) and Glyde (chelating agent).
8. Canal Irrigation: The canal is irrigated with Sodium Hypochlorite using an Endo-Activator (DENTSPLY) during every procedure.
9. Drying the Canals: The canals are dried using Corresponding paper points according to last instrument used from Dentsply
10. Calcium Hydroxide Dressing: A calcium hydroxide dressing is given.
11. Obturation: The canals are filled with 6% Gutta Percha (F1, F2, F3, F4 Dentsply) and sealer Bio Root (Septodent).
12. Temporary Filling: A temporary filling is placed.
13. Permanent Filling: A permanent filling material is placed to seal the access hole.
This procedure aims to remove infected pulp tissue, clean and shape the root canal, and fill it to prevent further infection.
